“Pride And Joy” by Stevie Ray Vaughan

    Difficulty: Intermediate

The opening to Pride And Joy is vintage Stevie Ray Vaughan and can be a difficult piece to master, but don’t shy away from it if you find it hard. This makes for great practice.

After the brief intro lead line, the song goes into an shuffle that alternates low notes with the high E, B, and G strings being played open. Stevie Ray hit these high strings with an up stroke. To get that authentic SRV sound (or something close to it ) you’ll want to hit them with an up stroke, too. SRV usually muffled out these strings with his fret hand right after he strummed them, making them a bit muffled and giving them a percussive effect.
