Step 1: Chord Progressions Study
The roman numeral system we’ve been learning can be seen in a different light with the circle of fifths. Download the study guide below:
Step 2: Exercise!
This is a speed/dexterity exercise that will workout mostly the 1st and 4th finger.
This is one full exercise, so it should be played in its entirety. I’ve broken it down
into bpm segments for the video so that you can view the fingerings easier for each bar.
Sets and Reps
Perform this exercise at 80, 90, 100, 110, and 120 bpm as:
- 80 = 1 set all the way through (no reps)
- 90 = 1 set all the way through (no reps)
- 100 = 1 set all the way through (no reps)
- 110 = 1 set all the way through (no reps)
- 120 = 1 set all the way through (no reps)
This equals 5 sets. You can choose how many reps you want to play, depending on your
skill level. If you did great with 80 bpm, play 2 sets, and then rest. The same applies to
all future exercises at the given bpm. This one allows you to really see how you match up with
not only your finger speed, but how quickly you can finger a given note on the tab.
