Session #24: Where To Play?
Let’s say you’re ready to jam with some friends and want to play some solos. The first thing that comes to your mind is which notes will work and which notes will not work. That’s where scales come in handy. Scales give us a road map that shows us where the right notes are. In order to use the correct scale we first must decide what key the song is in. It’s either a major or minor key. In the video above we’ll discuss how you can determine the correct key and then apply the correct scale. You can download the PDF for the video below:

2013 Checklist
Below is the progress session progress checklist for our 2013 sessions. Practice Sessions from 2013 that focuses on these key concepts:
- Ear training: Improve your relative pitch. When you hear a note, the ability to the know the pitch of any other note from the previous note is called “relative pitch”.
- Intervals: Intervals are the distance between 2 notes. Recognizing the sound of different intervals by ear is a key part of your development as a guitarist.
- Sight Reading: You’ll discover skills that allow you to play through tablature and music at ‘sight’. Great for learning new songs.
- Creating Chord Progressions: Learn the ‘rules’ to creating chord sequences that sound like, well… a real song.
- Creating Melodies With Scales: This will go hand-in-hand with creating chord progressions, in that we will create melodies that go with the chord progressions that we’ll create.
You are to check off the items as you go. Once you have completed all of the items in the linked session, you’ll check off the session below. The checklists are saved via cookie which will last 365 days. If you have cookies turned off in your browser, or use a different computer, then the checklists will not be saved. Customizing Your Schedule
You’ll notice that each session is numbered. The first number denotes the week and the second number denotes the central topic covered. Each of our five main topics are numbered as such:
- Intervals
- Ear Training
- Sight Reading
- Chord Progression
- Melodies
For example, 1.1 is week one “intervals” and 2. 1 is week two intervals. Another example would be 3.5. That would be week three ‘melodies’. However many days of the week that you can practice is however many of the topics you’ll cover at one time.
- One day=Intervals
- Two days= Intervals and Ear Training
- Three days= Intervals, Ear Training, and Sight Reading
- Four days= Intervals, Ear Training, Sight Reading, and Chord Progression
- Five days= Intervals, Ear Training, Sight Reading, Chord Progression, and Melodies.
If you only practice one day, choose only the Intervals track. If you practice two days, choose Intervals and Ear Training, and so on. On a light practice schedule you’ll move on to the next topic(s) once you have completed each topic. [/tab] [tab title=”Library”]

Songs
Keep in mind that learning new songs isn’t always the easiest thing to do. Some songs are easier than others, but you should give a try to any of these songs- no matter the difficulty. Focus on one section at a time and practice them to the best of your ability. The level of difficulty for each song is represented by stars. One star=easy Four stars=hard
