Low to high, the standard open A tuning is E A E A C# E: while the sixth, fifth and first strings remain the same as standard tuning, the fourth string is tuned up one whole step from D to E, the third string is tuned up one whole step from G to A, and the second string is tuned up one whole step from B to C#.
