"Samba Pa Ti" by Carlos Santana Part I

Difficulty: Advanced

Ok. We are only focusing on Part I of this song right now, since it is a little more advanced, and is rather hard to play on acoustic.

You will hear the bends and how hard they really are to play on the acoustic.

This song can be played on the acoustic correctly by remembering our biggest rule of thumb - Use your fingers correctly!

We always want to try to space our fingers and assign them the correct notes.

Here are the chords used in the backing track. Check them closely, as playing them the following way really makes the chords sound good :

G Bm Em Am7

Am D Bbm

Intro

In the intro, the first two bars are repeated. The backing track of chords are really just played as the bass notes for the lead in between. What you will want to remember is to only strike these chords about once, sometimes allowing the chord to ring a little.

Almost all the bends that you will play are FULL bends. To me, full bends are sometimes easier than other bends. This is just my opinion. Also, there are a few triplets, but they aren't really that difficult until you get to the solo. Everything else is pretty much standard as far as slides and such.

Here is the backing track using chords :

Here is the entire intro played together :

We didn't include the very first riff because it is IMPERATIVE that you see the difference. The first measure uses accents, where as the repeating fifth measure uses triplets.
