Where to find this song - Speakerboxxx / The Love Below
track # 28
Release Date - September 2003
The Bio:
Along with Goodie Mob, Outkast took Southern hip-hop in bold,
innovative new directions. There was less reliance on aggression,
more positivity and melody, thicker arrangements, and intricate
lyrics which form perfectly with their music. After Dre and Big
Boi hit number one on the rap charts with their first single,
"Player's Ball," everyone, including musicians, began
to follow these two on their musical endeavors.
Main Riff
The song is in standard 4/4 time at 160 beats per minute. The
rhythm of the song is easy to follow along with. Every measure
follows the same rhythm pattern except the 4th measure which changes
to 2/4 time. Here's what the rhythm guitar, lead part, and bass
guitar all sound like together:
Guitar 1
Begin this popular riff by playing a G chord. Place your 1st
finger on the second fret on the "A" string. Place your
2nd finger on the third fret on the "low E" string.
Place your 3rd and 4th fingers on the third frets of the "B"
string and the "high E" string.
Begin the second measure by playing a C chord. Place your 3rd
finger on the third fret on the "A" string. Place your
2nd finger on the second fret on the "D" string. Place
your 1st finger on the first fret on the "B" string.
Play that about six times to end the measure, and repeat the same
chord for the third measure.
Play the fourth measure by forming a D chord. Place your 1st
finger on the "G" string on the second fret. Place your
3rd finger on the third fret on the "B" string, and
place your 2nd finger on the second fret on the "high E"
string. Play that about three times.
Play the fifth and sixth measures by forming an E chord. Do that
by placing your 2nd finger on the "A" string on the
second fret. Place your 3rd finger on the second fret on the "D"
string, and then place your 1st finger on the first fret on the
"G" string. Allow all other notes to remain open.
Guitar 2
The first and third measures are identical for this lead part.
Use your 3rd finger for the twelfth fret on the "B"
string, and then use your 4th finger to play the thirteenth fret
on the same string. Then, use your 1st finger for the tenth fret
on the "high E" string. End the riff by using your 3rd
finger again for the twelfth fret on the "high E" string
this time.
For the fourth measure, use your 1st finger on the tenth fret
on the "high E" string. Then, just use your 3rd finger
for the thirteenth fret on the "B" string. End this
measure by using your 2nd finger to play the twelfth fret on the
same string.
To play the fifth measure, use your 3rd finger to barre the "B"
string and the "G" string on the thirteenth fret. End
the measure by using your 1st finger on the ninth fret.
Bass
The bass guitar just follows along with
the 1st guitar. It just plays the root note of the chords the
guitar is playing. The same rhythm used by the guitar is used
by the bass except for the measure of 2/4 in which the bass plays
two quarter notes and the guitar plays a quarter note and two
eight notes.
