We are deeply saddened that LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. LeRoi had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program.

The folks here at Just Acoustic wish the band only the best in this very sad time.

RIP Leroi Moore (1961-2008)

This riff is very challenging in the sense that you will be moving chords faster than most of us are accustomed to. Overall, there's really only one main guitar, which is Dave's acoustic. The intro DOES have a tidbit of electric, but I've been to three shows, have all the live albums and DVD's, and have never actually seen anyone playing this guitar part behind Dave. I'm pretty sure it's really the organ, played by Butch Taylor. However, since it only appears once for the Intro, it's no big deal.

Theme Concept

Here are the fingerings I suggest (the chords listed are suggested or implied for the THEME, not the Pre-Chorus):

Bm G Aadd4 D/F#

Here's the Intro with the electric included (which really plays an easier version of the acoustic):

Here's the basic theme of the song, which comes in quite frequently.

Pre-Chorus

As with all DMB songs (most of which were actually arranged by Jazz Sax Master Leroi Moore) there are quite a few times that you switch between one theme and another. I have done my best to make since of this 'all over the place' musical score.

There will be times when the Pre-Chorus goes back into the Theme Concept, with Dave's acoustic playing what you have just learned, which is also considered the Chorus.

(I included the turnaround at the end of the Pre-Chorus, which goes back to the Theme Concept/Chorus for reference). I would TOTALLY recommend downloading the PTB file so that you can see what I mean. There are only two parts to this entire song, and you're learning both of them with the arrangement I have given you.

Here are the chords including a picture of each:

Bm A D G

If you transition as shown in the chords above, I believe it will be much easier for you.

(Remember that after you play the "A" chord above, you move into the Theme Concept, which is also the Chorus.)
