When Charlie Christian died from tuberculosis in 1942 at age 25 he was by far the most influential jazz guitarist on the planet. He was a student of Jazz guitarist Eddie Durham who invented the amplified guitar. In his short career, he played with the likes of Benny Goodman’s Sextet, Thelonious Monk, and Dizzy Gillespie.
“Blues In B” is a popular Pre-Reherasal Jam recorded at Columbia Recording Studios in 1941. It begins with pianist Johnny Guarnieri saying “Let’s play the blues…..Charlie, let’s play the blues in B.”
